Dr. Stewart Beasley is a psychologist well known for
his practical and no-nonsense approach to helping people improve their
quality or life. Committing himself to
"practicing what he preaches", he is married and the father of three children and active in his
community, state, and national efforts to improve the quality of life for
others.
Dr. Beasley has been a licensed practicing
psychologist since 1976 and in his long career as a teacher and university
professor, has taught hundreds of psychologists, counselors, marriage and
family therapists, and social workers currently in practice and teaching all
over the world.
Known as the
"psychologist's psychologist", Dr. Beasley is frequently sought out by other professionals for
his counsel and advice. His patients have included psychologists,
psychiatrists, physicians, attorneys, accountants, professors and teachers,
ministers, and high profile Oklahomans. He also enjoys working with teens
and their families, college students, couples, and senior citizens.
Additionally, he maintains an appointment as
Clinical
Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of
Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City.
A popular
speaker, teacher, and writer,
Dr. Beasley presents entertaining and informative programs to schools,
churches, civic clubs, and professional organizations. Because of his
ability to succinctly summarize complex psychological issues, Dr. Beasley
is frequently invited to appear on local radio and television programs as a
commentator. He has appeared nationally on CNN, NBC, CBS, and ABC as well as
internationally on radio and television stations in Japan, Great Britain,
the Netherlands, France, Australia, and New Zealand. Dr. Beasley and his
wife Dr. Lori Beasley write a monthly column
"Q and A With the Beasleys"
in
MetroFamily Magazine, a parenting publication
distributed in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.
Dr. Beasley has been honored by many organizations for
his service and professional competence. Oklahoma City's Contact Crisis
Helpline honored him for his
Outstanding Leadership in Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Wellness at its annual Festival
of Hope. He was recognized by the American Psychological Association as
Federal Advocate of the Year for Contributions to the Profession of
Psychology at Both the State and Federal Level at its annual State Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. His
state professional organization, the Oklahoma Psychological Associated
honored Dr. Beasley with its
Distinguished Psychologist Citation,
its Citation for Distinguished Contribution by a Psychologist in the
Public Interest, and the
Citation for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession
of Psychology in Oklahoma.
Also known as a psychologist of
"firsts", Dr. Beasley was the first psychologist in Oklahoma named by the
Governor as a
Member of the Oklahoma State Board of Mental Health and Substance
Abuse Services where he served as Vice Chair. Dr. Beasley was the first to serve
the Oklahoma State Legislature as Psychologist
of the Day. He served the Oklahoma Psychological Association as its first
two-term President
and as its
first
Director of Professional of Affairs.
The Oklahoma County District Attorney appointed Dr. Beasley as a member of
the first
Oklahoma County Victim Restitution Trust Authority.
Active in national, state, and community activities,
Dr. Beasley was one of the first psychologists called upon to meet with
survivors of the
Edmond, OK post office
workers massacre and their families. A few weeks later he was called
upon once again by his community to assist survivors of a devastating
tornado
that destroyed much of west Edmond, OK. He was again a vital part of
psychological services provided to families of victims of the
Murrah Federal Building bombing
in Oklahoma City, serving on site of the bombing as well as at the Victim
Notification Center.
In his spare time, Dr. Beasley enjoys spending time
with his wife and family, traveling, reading, and writing.
